Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm out to help people improve their writing, and therefore grow as people. I don't like to sugarcoat things, as you're never going to improve if someone keeps you in the dark about things forever.
I'm open to helping with text editing, and I've got no problems with a brainstorming session if you're having issues working through some plot-related things. We can exchange instant messaging screen names if that'd be easiest for you, or we could just correspond back and forth via email. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really good with spelling and punctuation. I also like to bust out the thesaurus and replace overused/cliched words with ones that are more unique or lend a different flavor to the work. I'm also a veritable expert with grammar and making a piece flow together well. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not much for helping people with their plot lines. I tend to want to turn things to the way I would write them, but not everyone has the same style or genre they write in. Also, I mostly only have access to dial-up internet, so it may take me a week or two to get back to someone. But please, just be patient and I'll do my best to get in touch with everyone, even if it's only to say "Sorry, I'm a touch too busy right now, but thanks for thinking of me." |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really like horror, supernatural, and action pieces. I'm not really a fan of poetry, but I can do basic text editing for poems if the mood strikes me. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not a fan of regular romance stories. If it's a story which is mostly action or something of the sort with romance thrown in for spice, that's fine. But please... nothing so sappy and sugary it'll give me cavities. |
