Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am studying English Literature and Creative Writing at university in England. Therefore, I use English spelling, and would prefer to work in it, rather than in American spelling. I look for a more natrual style of writing, rather than a forced or experimental manner. I hope to go into the publishing industry following University. I have been critiquing others work both in my Creative writing course, and in my studies in English. I read widely in both poetry and prose, and particularly enjoy the Romantic and Gothic styles. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Correcting spelling and grammar, along with basic copyediting, such as spotting inconsistancies and making the piece more concise. I have a fairly wide general knowledge, enough to allow an understanding of most subjects. I am also very aware of the conventions of presenting work, and of the various forms of poetry and prose. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Writing speech has always been a weakness, and I may sometimes seem stilted. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Poetry, historical pieces based between 1300 and 1600. Fantasy and short stories |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Science fiction, war stories or political pieces. I have little interest in horror or thrillers. |
