Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, I'm also a writer, so I tend to look at things with a critical eye when it comes to plot and character development. Even if I don't like something, I'll almost always be able to find something in it that I like or something that someone else will like. I only ask that the story anyone who asks me to beta read for them be able to have the very basics of spelling, capitalization, and punctuation down before they ask me to read. I don't read internet jargon.

Take any criticism with a grain of salt and know that I only say anything if I want to see your work improve and see you do better as a writer. Please don't take anything as an attack on you. I don't actually know you so I will not insult you. My only goal is to help make your work sound and look professional.

When I take a work as a beta reader, I will tell you approximately how long I am likely to be before I give you any feedback. I can't tell you how long it will be now because it depends on my schedule. If I get to a point where I cannot make the deadline I give you, I will tell you as soon ahead of time as possible. Sometimes deadlines sneak up on me and it can't be helped.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My greatest strength as a writer is character development. I've always believed that a great character will likely save a bad plot much more than a great plot will save a poor character and this will likely come through when I beta read. I will focus more on how you define the characters and their abilities, how you balance them within the world, and how you keep them consistent in their reaction to what happens to them. I also tend to focus on keeping the world the story is set in consistent, meaning that it doesn't incorporate obvious outside influences in its speech and its style of description.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My biggest weakness is grammar and spelling. Though I am able to do both adequately, I do make mistakes from time to time. I've gotten much better in the last few months and I have worked hard to make sure that I do not at least make the same mistakes again. If I see a mistake that I commonly make or a spelling error that I know I've made before, I'm likely to catch it, though. Just because my own beta reader has pounded these errors into my mind.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I write mostly fantasy, so I am more likely to enjoy reading that. I have more experience in this genre than any other and I will be more likely to give a more in depth feedback on a fantasy work. However, I have no issue with reading any other sort of fiction. Any style or genre is welcome, but I do ask that the work be fiction.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't want to read essays. I got to school all day and I don't intend to spend my days reading and writing academic works and then coming home and doing the same in my spare time.
