Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a college English major, hoping to lend a hand to those who need help with grammar, spelling, or usage. I'm an editor for the opinion column of my school paper. I have a lot of experience in a lot of cultures-Japanese, Chinese, French, Korean, and German culture are all familiar to me. I have a lot of history knowledge. I have some experience with government, a lot of experience with business, and a lot of other little things that may come in handy when fleshing out your characters.
If you would like me as a Betareader, I would like to have a reliable method of contacting you, such as IM (aim, myspace, or msn) or cell phone number. If I come across a confusing concept, I cannot help you rephrase it without knowing what's going through your head. I also ask that you have proofread your document once before sending it to me. I do not wish to rewrite every sentence due to a forgotten punctuation or sentence you started typing, then walked away and forgot about. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar is my best suit. You know those times when Word told you something was wrong, but didn't look right when you "fixed" it? I'll be able to tell you which way IS right. I've read a lot of my peer's papers and am familiar with common mistakes or things that a reader just stumbles over. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm no great shakes at spelling, so please make sure you've chosen the correct option if Word points out a spelling error. I'm not likely to catch the difference between council and counsel if I'm not paying very close attention |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like just about everything, and can still objectively read anything at all. I don't know a lot about fighting scenes or techniques, so if your story contains a lot of this, I probably can't help. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I would prefer not to read sci-fi. Ghosts are fine, werewolves and unicorns and demons are fine, but when we move into the realm of androids and aliens and futuristic technology, I get frustrated easily. I've tried to write it and can't; I've tried to read it and can't. I'm sorry. |
