Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Proofreading/editing is a hobby. More so than even reading and writing. It's not so much fun editing my own stuff, though. I tend to correct as I go, so most of what I find are simple spelling errors.
I also like to read well-written fic. Some of the worst fiction out there is simply because the writing/grammar is so deplorable. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Content (plot holes, characters, does the story make sense)
Grammar:
* subject-verb agreement
* split infinitives
* pronoun confusion
* contractions (with exception of dialogue)
* homonyms (eg they're/their/there)
* tense
* usage (vocabulary)
* sentence structure |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm thorough; I require free range of time. This often means I take longer than you may think is necessary or reasonable. I can beta under time constraints, but I prefer not to, and I cannot guarantee accuracy.
So far as historical accuracies go, I fail. I'm not likely to pick up on minor anachronisms. So, if you're hoping to confirm your research and use of period-specific details, I freely admit I'm not the best option. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer Slash fiction, but I'll accept any genre. I like to beta; that's what comes first. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
RPS (real person slash)
rape-fic (not my cup of tea; I won't touch it)
Shota (in which one character of a romantic relation is under the age of consent) |
