I’m putting this first because it seems people are too stupid to understand the full concept of this:

The only way I’ll beta-read anything is if you, the author, send me a PM or Email asking me to beta-read first, the chapters are sent to me in the body of an email AFTER I’ve responded to you, and the chapters are sent to me one at a time and only after I’ve finished beta-reading the chapter before. I take NO email attachments, no full stories sent to me at once, and no stories sent to me prior to accepting you for beta-reading. It’s a chapter at a time, in the body of an email, first need acceptance from me, that’s the way I work.

If you send me the full story at once or you send a chapter to me prior to me accepting to beta-read for you, your request WILL be ignored, and I will not beta-read for you.

Failure to abide by the ‘No Attachment’ clause above, will see you being reported to Fiction Press staff and to your email provider. Yes I’m being mean on purpose, no it’s not an empty threat -- consider this the first, last, and only warning you’ll get.

I try to beta read anything and everything, but I mainly focus in the realms of fantasy, modern fantasy, and sci-fi with a mixture of everything in between. I prefer long chapters as opposed to short chapters. While I'll most likely focus on the genres I just stated, I can and will look at other types of stories.

I look for improvements made to details, some character development, some grammer, and spelling. Also am rather good at coming up with names of characters and profiles for characters as well.

I also ask that you, the author, send me a PM and/or email asking for my help first before sending any chapters to me. While I will always have my Beta status to "Active", I may not always have access to the internet or check my email. I prefer to have a "Hey, I'm Author X and need a Beta, can you help?" in my inbox over a "Hey, I'm Author X and need a Beta, here's the first chapter, kthxbai".

Failure to ask for my help first before sending chapters will result in me ignoring the request.

Details and character profiles, will be able to give plot ideas as well since my mind works better with plots.

Getting back to the author on time. This is why I *insist* on having one chapter at a time, I can focus on it rather then an entire story at once. I can be lazy, I'll admit that right off the bat and don't often see things right away. Yes, I have been known to miss a few mistakes until later but I have improved slightly.

I prefer stories that mainly are K+ to M, fantasy and sci-fi. I honestly don't care what the story is about, really, and will beta read just about anything in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Don't worry too much about poetry or essays.

Even if it's not in the fantasy and sci-fi genres, I most likely will at least look over the first chapter of the story. If I think I can Beta it, I'll ask for more chapters.

No stories that are meant for young children as in you, the author, are writing for a pre-school age. I prefer to beta read stories that are meant for an older, mature audience. I really don't mind stories with swearing, nudity, fighting, etc. in them.

While I don't mind stories without all of these things, I prefer authors not to gloss over words or situations unless there's an absolute need for it, story-wise. If you can write something in one area, you can write something in another area. Again, this isn't a major thing for me not to take, but please be aware that I will not take look over things that are meant to be read by very young children.
