Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have a BA in English, writing emphasis, but that doesn't mean I will edit grammar. If you want someone who will read your story, and tell you the honest-to-god truth, good, bad, or ugly, in the nicest and most diplomatic way possible, then talk to me. If you need your grammar and spelling checked, I'm the last person you want to talk to. :) This does mean that if I can't stand it, I will tell you why in as much massive detail as I can muster, and the same for if I love it. Just know that I won't be glossing over stuff when you hand me your manuscript, unless I missed it too. :)
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Content editing, basically. I can tell you what I like, don't like, what is and isn't working. Etc. Also, I have a high tolerance for bad writing. There's only a few things that I can't stand to read, and there are very few things that I will actually stop reading.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I suck at grammar and spelling. I also have no tolerance for badly used cliches and unimaginative writing, though I'll try to be nice if you hand me your stuff, and I will tell you how I believe it could be improved.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I read fantasy, mostly, but in any case, I would prefer to beta something original. The more odd, the better. Even a typical genre done differently I would love to read. :D
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Depressing stories. Yes, there are times where bad stuff happens, but then there are the books where nothing ever goes right and you just end up feeling so freaking bad for the characters. But even then, if done right, it's okay. Mostly it's the intention behind it. If you go into a story intending to freak your readers out, or totally mess with your characters lives and heads for no reason other than you can, I will pick up on it, tell you, explain it if I can, and won't read any more. :)
