Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will gladly read just about anything you send me, with a few minor exceptions:
I request that all work be at least somewhat proofread ahead of time (as a beta reader I'm checking for grammar and spelling with a critical eye, but I do have to know what you're trying to say).
I request that the subject matter is well thought out. I don't do teen angst psychobabble. If you want me to read angst, make sure it is mature, original, and real. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have written over 200 poems and about half a dozen short stories.
I have read a lot of poetry, and read and edit more poetry than I write. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My only weakness is my desire to see all poetry at its best. My poetry, your poetry, everyone's poetry. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Haiku, poems about nature, love, or well formed allegories.
Short stories, I like reading scifi and fantasy, horror, and supernatural tales. Religious parables are also interesting when they open up new areas of discussion on religious themes. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Angst, cutting, suicide notes, teenage psychobabble. Fictionpress is not your blog, it is a literature website. I know I'm fighting an uphill battle on this one, but I refuse to toss wood on the pyre. |
