Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will gladly read what you send to me, as long as it fits the following criteria:
All work should be proofread ahead of time. As a beta reader, I will be checking your grammar and spelling with a critical eye, but I'm not a second grade teacher, and those aren't the mistakes I want to have to waste my time correcting.
I don't want to read teen angst BS. If you have access to a computer and the internet and you have enough free time to be writing poetry, your life doesn't suck as bad as most of the people in the world, so stop complaining about it.
I do want to read your poetry. I've got a lot on my plate so, sadly, the shorter your poetry is the more likely it is that I will want to beta read it.
I do want to read short stories, however if you send me a short story I may or may not take up the project based mostly on if I enjoy the content. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have written over 200 poems and about half a dozen short stories.
I have read a lot of poetry, and read and edit more poetry than I write. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Lack of time and attention span is probably my only weakness, however if you're going out of your way to request a Beta-reader, that means you're concerned with writing well, and thus probably worth my time. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Haiku, poems about nature, love, or well formed allegories.
Short stories, I like reading sci-fi and fantasy, horror, and supernatural tales. Religious parables are also interesting when they open up new areas of discussion on religious themes. Feel free to send me other philosophical musings or post-modern dark and dirty real life stories as well, I love to hear them, though I can't always improve upon them. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Angst, cutting, suicide notes, teenage psychobabble. Fictionpress is not your blog, it is a literature website. I know I'm fighting an uphill battle on this one, but I refuse to toss wood on the pyre. |
