Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I would like to think that I would make a good beta reader. I frequently read stories which are posted on this site, and as a reviewer I tend to write longer more critical messages rather than short praise. I am very interested in literature, and have gone courses as well as read books on how to write good prose and dramatic fiction.

My style of beta reading is that I read the text (whether it is a chapter, or a story)and then I comment on things like characterization, development, style of language. I analyse both strengths and weaknesses, and give suggestions to what I would see as improvent. The author may then decide to take heed to the comments or ignore them. My aim is to convey my criticisms in polite language so as to not offend anyone.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good at beta reading the following:
-grammar
-general style (language and originality)
-character development
-plot development
-brainstorming ideas (if the author is in a dry spell or bored with the story)
-good knowledge of the Regency and Victorian Eras (have several reference books to check fact if that is necessary)
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I pay less attention to spelling when reading a story. Frankly, I find correcting spelling mistakes quite dull. And English is spoken in many countries and spellt in different ways. Besides that is what a spellcheck is for.
The structure of the story is not something it dwell upon unless in actually hinders the author from effectively telling his/her story.

I am more interested in improving the core content of the story; helping the author with the development of his/her ideas and improving clarity in the story.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I enjoy reading Romance stories. They can be historical, or young adult, or humor etc (i.e. anything in love in it ;-D).
I also enjoy reading essays, and so called "slice of life" stories.
I am not bothered by M rated stories, as long as they aren't random sex stories with not point or meaning.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Unless the author is exceptional (and thus does not need my help) I do not think the following genres are interesting:
Action
Fantasy
Supernatural
Science Fiction
Horror

I am reluctant to beta read Poetry, because I am a very bad judge of good poetry.
