Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Whoever comes to me for beta-reading must have one thing: the willingness to accept criticism. Believe me, I will criticize what needs to be criticized with no regard to pride or dignity. My weapon against bad writing is honesty, if you don't like it, please don't even come near me with a ten-foot pole. But, in saying that, I will also promise you that my only intention is to make your work better. That is my only agenda. Feel free to engage in a discussion with me. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel at military fiction, fantasy fiction, and science fiction. Aside from that, any form of essay or any work that needs to have its "flow" adjusted. I also have great grasp of dry humor and irony in addition to an appreciation of smart, rapid-fire dialog. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm weak at non-action oriented stories. Intimate, inter-character moments can only interest me for a short time. Romance is also a bit of a touchy subject, I'm only adept at approaching it from a certain "non-mushy" angle. Also, please don't ask me to edit any sex or love-making scenes. I refuse to have anything to do with those. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As I already said. I prefer long works over short works. I prefer epics over personal dramas. I prefer action over words. It's as simple as that. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Pure romance fics. Teenage angst dramas. Mary-sues/self-glorification works. Pure unadulterated all-out violence. Rip-offs. |
