Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a college major in literature, I love to read other people's work to gain new perspective and see what spiffy new ideas they have. I have a preference of prose, but I can check poetry as well. I'm not too picky about what I'm reading or what it is about. If you want me to check your work, I will give you a thorough and detailed list of corrections and critique of your style and plot. I am not a "mean" critic, but if you cannot handle someone pointing out the faults of your story or poem, then do not ask me to check your work. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
While I am not the best at finding errors in my own work, I'm good at spotting most spelling errors and finding misconstrued words (ex. than v. then) in other's work. Grammar is my specialty, particularly comma placement, using quotation marks properly, and the use of colons and semicolons. I've studied a variety of different writing styles in poetry and prose, so I can help writers edit their works to fit a certain style & structure if necessary. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can't imagine what to say here. I'm not saying that I'm without weakness, but other than I might accidently miss an error here or there, I am well rounded about my correctional skills, not picky about what I read, and I always enjoy trying to help other writers out. Anyone who receives a beta-reading from me can tell me if they had any problems or comments about my critique and I will make note of it in my profile. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'll take just about any story, but my preference is fantasy, modern fantasy, sci-fi, mythology, and historical (and by historical, I mean ancient times, but do not confuse this with mythology). |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I prefer fiction stories for the most part since this is Fictionpress. If you want to post a note you wrote for someone or a story about yourself one day at school or work...I'd rather your give it to someone else to check. I don't want a record of your life, I want to see imaginative and creative stories with well thought out plots and 3-D characters. |
