Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Some say the eyes are the windows to the soul, well, I believe words are. Words are powerful tools and can be used foolishly or wisely. I am here to help you with the latter. I am a Journalism major and a jurnior in college. I am the editor-in-chief for our successful school newspaper. I love Journalism, but my heart lies in fiction and poetry as well. I am a very creative person who loves to spice up stories with adjectives, visuals, and intense colorful characters. I am very friendly and laid back. I will not be too harsh on you, unless you prefer it, but I do believe constructive criticism is necessary. After all, YOU are the author, I am only here to help. I absolutely love to read and write, and have read thousands of books of ALL categories. It's hard to pick a favorite genre, but I do enjoy young adult, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, interesting romance, adventure, and drama. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good with spelling, adjective use, and helping with character development. I am also good at helping other's get past writer's block. While I have trouble with it for my own work, I find it comes easily to me with other people's. If you just can't think where to go next in your story I may be of help. I am very good at proof reading, since that is what I do for a living! Spell checking and fluid of sentences and paragraphs are also a strength. I am also very good with punctuation. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I must admit, grammar is not my strength. While I have basic college level knowledge of grammar, I am the best. My journalism use of grammar (and AP style) is excellent, but since that varies drastically from fiction, sometimes I am not always the most accurate with it. Another weakness I tend to have is to jump to conclusions sometimes, but that's something I'm definitely working on. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
As mentioned in my bio I really prefer young adult, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, interesting romance, adventure, and drama. Please no slash or extremely cheesy romance. I like romance, but i like it to be surrounded with drama, adventure, action, ect. I love unique story lines with interesting characters, unique settings, and something that has been created totally and completely by you. If that is what you are having trouble with, don't fear, I can help you with that to. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Please no adolescent type stuff. I like young adult, but when I say that I mean, young ADULT, not young child. Please do not send me something you could only imagine a 10 year old reading. I have nothing against it, it's just not my preference. I LOVE poetry and LOVE reading and writing it, but I don't think poetry can be beta'd. It is to close to the soul and is hard to edit without being harsh. I do however like story-poems. |
