Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
While I try to focus on a bit of what I'm reading instead of taking in the whole, I tend to treat spelling errors lightly by simply giving the correct spelling, but points relating to plot or such will get you an at times verbose comment. I use the Microsoft Word comment system, but can leave notes within the beta document if asked. I would prefer to beta for people who do not expect me to be a simple spellchecker, and seriously want to improve their writing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As an avid reader of many genres and a grammar/spelling nut, I'm pretty good at spotting mistakes in spelling and grammar mechanics, as well as style issues such as clumsy word choice or when a run-on sentence just does not skate by. I also pay close attention to characters and can point out inconsistencies or lack of development. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Plot is not always my strong point. If I can't string together a hint you dropped in chapter one and then brought up again in chapter eight, it doesn't necessarily mean the hint was not strong enough. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Although I usually like to read sci-fi, fantasy, or coming of age stories, I also enjoy steampunk, cyberpunk, and the like. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't like hurt/comfort or westerns, and please no rape or excess cruelty. Other than that, I'm not all that picky. |
