Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have a critical eye. I'm fairly good with spelling, punctuation and the like. I try to get into the characters and make sure that what they do or say seems true to who they are. I also get really annoyed by cliche stories, so I try to offer ideas that would give the story more individuality. I'm a pretty good idea person. I would hope that anyone who wanted me for their beta would be willing to really discuss the story. I don't want them to just accept what I say. I want them to take what I say into consideration, but, at the end of the day, stay true to their style and their story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good with the technical stuff. I tend to drive people crazy when I fix their grammar or spelling. (I can't help but speak up if I notice it.) I'm also pretty good at character development. I think it's important to know the backstory of a character, even if it never comes up in the story. Getting people out of ruts seems to be a talent of mine-- I can come up with fairly good ideas to get things going. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer, I have serious issues coming up with the middle of a story. I can begin, and I generally set out with an end in mind, but I get caught between point A and point B. I also get bored with my own stories after a while. I think maybe I'm just a better editor than I am writer. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love romance and supernatural stories. I'm not too picky about couples though-- I don't care if it's homosexual or heterosexual love. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I have a really weak stomach, so slash-and-hack writers should probably go to someone else. Soft horror isn't too bad, but anything harder wouldn't work too well either. |
