Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
How I beat-read your story depends entirely on *your* expectations. I can be either a critical editor or a "second-sober-thought". The only thing I ask is that you DO NOT connect your paragraphs on the same line and remember to start a new paragraph whenever a different character talks as it makes it easier for me to follow your story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, grammar and formating are my specialties (i.e. correcting dependent clauses that stand on their into dramatic fragment sentences or changing them altogether by attaching them to an independent clause), as well as "real speech". |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Can't translate worth a darn and I'm always tentative about changing the descriptive aspects of a person's writing. I'm also unfamiliar with working on pieces written from a second-person point-of-view since I have a bad habit of changing them to first-person. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
In all honesty, I prefer reading stories where the main character is a man, especially if he *isn't* a stereotypical macho, beefy, brainless guy. They're just more interesting. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm uncomfortable with working on stories that describe sex-scenes. Having said that, I have nothing against homosexuals or bisexuals, but I don't enjoy writing/reading slash.
Last but not least, I'm getting bored of reading stories in which the main character is a woman. I have two sisters and three female cousins, all of whom think that those female characters out there that are trying to *compensate* for being a woman. I'm starting to agree with them: women are perfect just the way they are |
