Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Though I'm a critic, my critiques could range from mellow to harsh, depending on the request of the reader. There have been times when a harsh critique has been requested and I have complied. A harsh critique generally consists of me, picking apart the plot, the premise, the characters, the dialog, everything. I will never make personal attacks. A more mellow critique would consist of me picking apart the dialog, the characterization, etc. I probably won't jump onto the plot too hard as I imagine the writer wrote the plot as such for a reason. Again, it'd be good to specify what sort of critique is desired-- a thorough one, where I let nothing pass, or a mellow one, where I point out the style weaknesses. If you'd like my help on a story, my only requirements are that you clarify which you'd like and make sure your story falls into my preferred stories. If you aren't sure if it does or not, please drop me a message. Thank you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I would consider myself best at critiquing dialog and tone, as I have a fairly good concept of the two. Sentence structure and flow are also strengths, though not quite so much. I also have a good eye for stereotypes and weak plots, and could very well help with pacing and characterization. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
One weakness would probably be my attention to the plot. If it's overused and poorly done I might be distracted by such things and there's a good chance it'll be brought up in the critique. And as for description, I can realize when it's lacking, I just wouldn't be able to help very much in suggesting what description to input. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would read almost anything, particularly if it were philosophical, introspective, thought-provoking, adventure fantasy, steam-punk, etc.... Although, like I said, I'd be fine with almost anything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't think I'd very much like a romance novel. Sci-fi, also, isn't really my sort of thing. However, anything else should be fine. |
