Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love to read, and I do enjoy poetry. I've attended several college writing classes from journalism to creative writing, so I have a fair idea what proper grammar and spelling is (even if I don't use it). Among that, I also like to think I can see into a writers mind, I try to read it from their eyes and see it as the author meant it, so my critique doesn't consist of just grammar. Besides in freestyle poetry grammar doesn't always have a place. If you want me to read some of your work, I would be more than happy to. Just don't always expect only good remarks this is meant to help you, and the best way to learn is through mistakes. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love writing/ reading poetry, from the novice to the most known writers I read it all. My creative style is usually free write, I don't like to follow a line or stay within the accepted "grammar." Which is probably why I like poetry so much, I have a vivid imagination so I can really get into a good story or poem. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm known for run-on sentences, I type fast but my mind works faster than my fingers. This also goes with reading, I have a tendency to not pay attention to the style of writing if I really get into a piece. In a similar area I tend to over analyze, sometimes reading into things farther than they were meant, though I don't feel this is all bad trait most people don't like it. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Fiction novels, I read everything from westerns to futuristic aliens. As well as poetry, there's no limit send it all to me, just read the Not my Cup of Tea, then forget and send it anyway.
*Everything Should be spell checked, I can understand a misplaced word but please make sure they're at least spelled right!
*Send me all poetry, grammar doesn't matter, it has no place in poetry, just proof read it and make sure it flows.
*For any story, you should check it for all matters of the English language. Flow, punctuation, spelling should all be done. I feel my job is just to see if from a different set of eyes, give you feedback on story structure and possible improvements. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I get tired of reading (and sorry for the pun but it's the only way I know to explain it) goth, or cutting poetry. It is a good way to vent, and far preferred to what most the poems describe. The only reason I don't care for it, is it's all the same. Different artist, different words, same message. I would like to use this to put a challenge out there, put a new spin on it, make it different from everyone else's, then I REALLY!! want to read it. Good luck and keep on writing! |
