Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a rather loose beta-reader -- I tend to like everything that I read, but I will try to offer my services as best as I can. If there's something I don't like, I'll try to say it, but "loosen" it up with a nice comment about the writing. I will make sure that your writing is the best it can be, but I will try not to change your style if that is really not what you want to do. I expect anyone that wants my services to be a nice person who genuinely wants someone to help improve their writing and won't get offended if I have a negative comment. They'd have to at least *try* to use correct spelling or grammar, but I know that we're only human, and that might not be that easy to do. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel in getting *into* the poem and realizing what it's really trying to say. I can tell you what's not quite right about it, or things that are awesome and shouldn't be changed. I am quite competent in my abilities to pick out good grammar and spelling and/or fix less than perfect mistakes |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses are that I find it hard to give a harsh critique (think Simon Cowell on American Idol). I am more of a Paula Abdul type of judger -- I can be harsh sometimes, but I sometimes... sugarcoat things. So, if you're a beginning writer, and just want someone to read over your things and encourage you, I'm probably the best. I can tell it real, but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I also am not good at actually picking out tiny mistakes, but I like to think I'm all right in that respect. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can betaread pretty much anything, so no preferences. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I might not want to betaread a long fic, but if you're willing to bear with me as I get into the beta-reading style, then I'd be more than happy to betaread one, although it might take a while to get back to you each time. |
