Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Beta-reading isn't very new to me. I have beta-read some fanfiction before, but original fiction should be quite interesting. I normally take less than a week to finish a chapter: I only take a day to read and correct a chapter, but I have to find the time to do so. I will correct any grammar or spelling errors, but only give comments on style and characterisation. A story is multi-faceted and I cannot write it for you, but I can offer my advice and opinion.
If you want me to betaread for you, do take note of the delay (like I said, one week or less), and I don't think I can handle more than 3 stories at once so if I'm full up, sorry! Also, if you persist in committing the same grammar errors and I cannot see any general improvement (if there needs to be any) in the quality of your writing over time, sooner or later I will feel less and less inclined to help.
As for poetry: of course, expect a shorter time delay. I find repetitive rhyme annoying, but am not limited to free verse.
One last thing: writing is quite a personal thing, so if I do not like your style, I don't think it'd be a good idea for the betareading to continue. I need to actually find your plot et cetera interesting to be committed as a beta reader. (:
That said, I don't bite! Requests are more than welcome. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
General consensus is that my imagery is vivid, and personally I think I am good at witty dialogue. I am also a bit of all right, character-development wise. Also, people do tell me that I am funny, so if you want your story to be a little bit funnier I might be able to help with that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My grammar is not perfect in that I love using sentence fragments far too much. Also, some people would say I am too critical of other people's writing, when I am not a prolific writer myself(story-wise). Style is also very much personal, and thus I also tend to be overbearing. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm alright with cliched plotlines as long as they have the potential to be well-developed. Slash stories are also okay, but I'm more comfortable with gay than lesbian. But generally I find I enjoy beta reading fics with a good dash of humour, and quirky characters/plot. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Horror stories not my strength, I am a weak wobbly jelly when it comes to those truly scary ones. Other than that, I'm not really that great at science fiction kinda stuff. Oh and cutting/goth stories a big no-no as I find them very pretentious. |
