Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! I can help you by correcting spelling/grammar errors, improving tangled sentences, and improving dialog. I'm pretty quick at catching errors and preserving the integrity of the piece.
I take A.P. Literature, A.P. European History, and Humanities. I passed the A.P. American History and A.P. American Government tests. I'm also decent in math and science. So if you need that sort of information, I could probably tell you or I could pull it out of a textbook. I am currently part of my school's Yearbook Copy Staff, meaning I write whatever needs to be written, from articles to captions. I am also a key editor on my school's Literary Magazine, Pegasus. I judge entries and proofread them. I am a part of my school's Writer's Guild. In this group, we write stories and have group critique sessions. It's a lot like reviews on this site, only smarter. I have a 34 on the English portion of the ACT (out of 36) and a 33 on the Reading portion. I am an Orator on the Debate team and my speech has been honed to near perfection. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a great grasp on English. I have experience in correcting other people's written work. I have helped improve my fellow debaters' speeches and I catch errors in my school's Literary Magazine before it goes into publication. Additionally, I am on the proof-reading team for that magazine. I do have a talent for catching those mistakes. I also took a class that discussed the mechanics of writing, like dialog, tone, voice, diction and whatnot. I especially love dialog and can help fix it so it flows with the story. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I haven't actually officially beta-ed before, but I would like to give it a shot if anyone would let me. So I admit, I am a newbie.
I have a tendency to fall behind on things. I would have to correct errors on a print-off during school, and if things get too hectic, well. . . I might not catch all of your mistakes, but enough that nobody should know.
I like Science Fiction, but its really not my forte. I wouldn't be able to catch technical errors. Okay, maybe one or two, but not much.
Don't ask me to diagram a sentence. I can fake a lot of things, but I couldn't fake that even if I was dying. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I could probably do well with Historical Fiction. I would love to do Science Fiction, but as I said, I'd probably get lost in the techno-babble and miss something. I am very sarcastic and love satire. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I am sick of fantasy. I will not read it. I'm also not a huge fan of romance, and I hate westerns. Please stick to the ratings because I just don't read smut. No sex and please keep the swearing to a minimum. |
