Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I believe that I express my ideas better on paper, or in this case, on the computer, better than in everyday conversation. I have so many great ideas worked up in my mind, and that's probably due to my overactive imagination, which sometimes may be a good thing, but other times, may not be. I love reading stories that grab me, suck me in, and trap me, those stories with a great plot, memorable characters, or quotable lines are stories worth reading.
I want to beta stories by authors who truly believe in themselves and their product, and that's seen through their work. I understand that the pressures of reviews and avid fans really bring on the writer to push up their chapter deadlines, therefore, those require a lot more editing than anything, but I love editing stories. I think having the power to help someone make their work better than it originally was, or give them feedback, is such a great thing.
As for my beta reading style, I do the whole read over once, and then I read over the story a multiple of times until I can squeeze out every little bit that I can. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar. Grammar. Grammar.
I have a very keen eye for those grammatical errors. I know many people say that the usage of the comma is dead, but to me, it is very much alive and kicking. Let's just say I can get very comma crazy at times, it's scary.
Spelling errors are ones that I watch out for too, but I think Microsoft Word, or wherever the story is being written on, has the spell checker tool, which is an essential to any writer's life.
Typos! I understand that sometimes you're in a rush to write a story and get it out, therefore, typos happen. I have a very good eye for that, so don't worry.
Repetition. For some reason, a story doesn't flow as well for me if so many of the same words are repeated over and over again, and not intentionally. I always happen to stumble upon those, and I will point those out.
I'm all about sentence structure too. I like stories that flow together smoothly, and I can work with the writer in helping them achieve that. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer, I'm guilty of not reading my OWN work over and over again before I send it out. For some reason, I hate it. I'd rather have someone else read it for me, before I attack it and see how bad it is myself, but when I get that feedback from people, that's when I fully attack it, and when I do, I practically kill my original work and it turns into a whole new thing. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Anything humorous works for me. Young Adult, Romance, Humor, is great. I like some action stories, but it really has to capture me. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Poetry. It's not that I don't want to read it, because poetry is a beautiful way of expressing yourself, but I take fiction over poetry. |
