Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been writing for about four years now, getting better all the while. Everybody has to start somewhere and how better to start than with a bit of help? I'm not completely critical when it comes to people's efforts and have helped out many enthusiastic writers in the last few years. Admittedly, I'm still learning myself. I always am and I'm always willing to accept help just as often as I like to give it. It's actually an honour for me when people ask me for a little guidance or a push in the right direction. :) As well as pointing out errors, I will give examples of what would work well in the text. Nice, aren't I? As well as I can manage, I will beta-read as soon as I can. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, I have a keen eye for spelling in other people’s work, grammar and quite a broad vocabulary - well, I like to think so anyway. When I write, I like to write with a good flow to my work. My sentence structure can adapt to the mood and genre of the story and I think that's quite a feat. Since this section says that honesty is not boasting, I guess I'm quite justified to mention this next bit. I can make my characters believable and make them say and act in way that makes them all distinguishable. I try to make everything in my stories consistent and I suppose, I manage that quite well. Ha, so he says. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Where to begin! I often find myself getting carried away with actions! Though actions can be good to move the story along, my older works seemed to be nothing but - which is why I take pride in my current works! (Until even those got old...) And as one reader has pointed out very kindly and saved me the embarrassment of having this profile riddled with spelling errors, I often forget to proof-read my work. I can’t even weigh out the irony in that since I’m so picky with other people’s spelling. That's another thing though, I struggle to finish a story. I have so many ideas, that I get about a quarter way into the story and I get another idea. I have bout six stories on my computer waiting to be finished. Poor things. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I read almost any kind of story as long as it's original. I will help out with any story of any genre and of any length. (Unless it's so ridiculously long - I am a busy person!) I'm not fussy - as long as it's mostly coherent and spelling is more accurate than not. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don’t particularly like reading something that I have probably read a hundred and one times before and stories with so many twists that you get distracted from the actual plot. I get frustrated when stories contain nothing but simple sentences and are begging for compound sentences. Anything written in 'text speak' will automatically be overlooked. I really can't stand it! :) Also, I dislike obvious plots. Okay, so we all do that when we are young writers, but...yeah. Give me a good plot and I'm well away. |
