Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Anyone who wants me to beta-read for them must update frequently. I'm not going to read one chapter, and then read the next one a month from that time, you know? If you want me to do this, then you should be a dedicated writer who really wants feedback and isn't afraid of what I have to say, or isn't afraid to put themselves out there. I'm going to make suggestions, tell you what I don't like and what I do, tell you my opinion. I may get harsh but I will always be thorough and honest. If there's ever a certain thing you want me to look at or pay attention to, I certainly will. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Strengths. Well, I can catch typos, I can tell you whether or not your characters have depth, where to improve your writing, etc. Basically grammar. I'm also quite good at looking at scenarios and judging whether it needs a little something more or a little less. For example, a fight scene between two friends over something that's not a big issue but they're storming away and breaking things. (That would need a little less action or a little more of a reason to fight.) I'm not a huge writer myself, but being outside of the story and an avid reader has helped me to see quality and how to make improvements. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Getting really in-depth, I suppose. Someone's asked me about plot holes, and I'm not really even sure what those are, so there's one weakness. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
If I don't like the concept of your story, I won't beta-read for you, because there's no sense in me critiquing a story whose concept and plotline I'm not even interested in. So, I'll let you know. (High school romances get iffy for me, though some of them are good; I'll just have to let you know.) I will read mostly anything with romance, but it's not absolutely necessary. Only preferred. Plus fantasy. It's been a while since since I've read any fantasy or supernatural stuff. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I generally will not read anything without romance. And I'll especially not read mystery, which tends to bore me (no offense, I've just never liked it). Or horror, which gives me nightmares, though they can be good. I also prefer not to read anything sexually explicit, but if it's not so bad or repetitive, I don't mind so much. Gay/lesbian stories aren't something I read often, or ever, so asking me to critique one of those really wouldn't make sense. |
