Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, my name is Eris and I like to beta-read.
I've got a strong background in copy-editing and journalism, so if you're interested in having a beta who can check your stories for both grammatical errors and inconsistencies, then I'm your girl.
In terms of stories I'd be willing to beta, I'm honestly not that picky. Fantasy, romance, horror, nonfiction-- all genres appeal equally to me, and I'd devote all of my energy to whatever you'd like to throw at me :3 |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Copyediting (checking for grammar and spelling errors) would probably be my strongest point in terms of beta-reading; I'm pretty fanatical about it. My other strong point would be checking for inconsistencies in character's personalities and actions-- it was a mistake I used to make all the time in my own writing, but in the past year or so I've become far better at picking up on when characters' actions don't actually fit with their previous statements or beliefs. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm kind of obsessive, and can only focus on the proverbial "big picture" after I've gotten through all of the details. So I may say that something looks good, and then proceed to list a hundred tiny mistakes-- I'm not sure if that makes me worse as a beta, but I figure that's something that definitely bears mentioning in advance. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As I stated somewhere before, I'd be more than happy to beta any genre or style of writing. Honestly. I've dabbled in pretty much everything at one point or another in time, and though I've discovered that there are some genres that I'm worse at writing in than others, I enjoy reading virtually everything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Poetry would have to be the one exception to my open-mindedness; while I enjoy reading poetry, I doubt I would do a very good job in terms of beta-ing it. I'd be willing to try, of course, but I'd really rather not. |
