Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
First off, I'd like to point out that I'll accept anything. There are some genres that I'd prefer more than others, but I will edit anything you send to me. Red font will be used to show where I've fixed something, and when I have a question, I'll put it in parentheses -after- the part I had a question on. Make sense? Good.
I've been editing and beta-reading for my friends for a couple of years now, and I've been writing for more, of course. My older works may be crap, but I promise you that I'm a much better editor!
I have a part-time job right now, but that will not hinder my ability to check my e-mail. I'm in the Eastern Time Zone in the US, so if you could keep that in mind, that would be great. I try to be on the computer anywhere from 3:00pm to 12:00am every night, but if I’m not, don’t hold it against me, I do have a life that doesn’t revolve around the computer. I’ll always try to inform you when I’ll be away for more than one day at a time, out of courtesy.
I’d also like to get to know you a little bit before I beta for you. Not too much, but I’d rather that we get along. It makes for a pleasant working environment!
Of course, I’ll make some suggestions that you won’t like, and you don’t have to go along with everything I say. I’ll always try to be polite and courteous to you, and do my job quickly and efficiently.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm exceptionally good at pointing out spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and plotholes/characterholes. Also, I can check over sentences written in other languages, especially French, Japanese, Spanish, and German (as long as they aren't terribly complicated!). I'll always try to keep your story as accurate as possible! I would even go to extensive lengths to make sure that a certain plot was portrayed right. (Google is very useful, my friends.) I’ll keep a file of character/plot information on my computer that way when something doesn’t make sense, I know why. I’m a very organized person, and will go to any extent to make sure that YOU are satisfied. I am also good with portraying accurate, down-to-earth characters. If your character is too perfect, I’ll be the first one to tell you. Or if the dialogue doesn’t seem to match up, I’ll notice. My friends compliment me on my ability to render loveable, relatable characters, and that’s what I’ll try to help you with, if you need it. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm afraid I'm not that good with telling you bluntly what I think of your story. I always tend to butter people up before I say something rude. If that doesn't turn your crank, I'm very sorry. I'm also not very good with remembering eensy details about your character (like how many earrings so-and-so was wearing with her outfit of purple silk and sequins... uh, no). I've got so many of my own characters that I can't keep up. I'm no where near perfect, so some of my strengths may not be as... strength-y as I say they are. Whoops. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm a slash writer, through and through. I'd love to read male/male and female/female stories, and help you make your coming out/romance/drama-filled story its best. Incest, rape, shota/lolicon, bondage/fetishes, M-ratings do NOT bother me. In fact, I can help you to the best of my ability write a tantalizing sex scene with accurate descriptions of how everything works. ;D I'm also a HUGE fantasy buff, and I love D&D, so if you've got something like that you want to share, go right ahead! Vampires and werewolves are part of that fantasy/sci-fi package that I love so much, as well! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Like I said, I'll beta anything once. But I tend to shy away from historical/biographical writing, especially if it's about places/people I'm not interested in. I don't normally read male/female stories, but I'd happily beta one. Educational novels don't really float my boat, either... nor do kids books (even though I've been told that I would be wonderful as a kids' author). Again, like I said, send me anything, really. I like learning new things. :D |
