Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a new beta reader but I would focus on characterization, plot, continuity etc more than grammar and spelling. I work at my own pace though I try to get things done as quickly as possible. It may be a few weeks before I get things back to you, but I will, don't worry. I like to know every aspect of a story that I can while editing so providing me with character sketches/descriptions and a basic outline of the setting and plot would help me greatly. I'll give ideas about things I see could be fixed but my opinions aren't always for the best so I definitely ask for input or questions about my suggestions. I want to stay as true to the author's original idea as possible while making it the best the story it can possibly can be.
I'm very easygoing and friendly though I will be completely honest with story critiques and editing and do my best to point out ways it can be improved.
If you wish me to beta anything for you, please message me with your email and we can get something started. I would recommend doing everything through email, just because it makes things easy. If you have another way of communication, let me know as I'll see if it works for me as well. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very good at coming up with believable characters and dialogue, especially in a fictional setting. I tend to be better with the deeper aspects of a story (the underlying characterization, plot, setting, symbolism) and I like to think I'm good at catching typos. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My strong suit is most certainly not spelling. But with a dictionary at my side, I can work through it. I'm also not great with comedy (most of the things I find funny others don't) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Fantasy, science fiction, romance (either homosexual or straight, doesn't matter), Poetry |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Probably not modern fiction (unless it has fantastical elements to it), westerns, horror or spiritual works |
