Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm an English student about to undertake an extra Creative Writing module and have been published before so have experience with giving constructive criticism. I usually read a story, see if the concept grabs me, see if the plot is well structured and then finally, see if I warm to the characters and develop a bond with them. Am very honest with other people's work as people have been to me and it does help, so no if you get easily hurt by criticism. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm extremely good at picking out sentences that could be constructed better, very good at spelling, punctuation and grammar. Have a good vocabulary and am a trusted proof-reader by many. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can sometimes point out something that could be worded differently but sometimes my imagination goes and I can't always think of how it can be re-worded. Very picky with dialogue, but not too bad. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love to read chick-lit, so any romance fiction, any era/age. I like wartime fiction and on a contrast enjoy reading from the Young Adult category, with angst, drama and again, romance. If its done well! Original if it can be, but different uses of existing cliches if not completely original. I'll be put off if I'm reading the same things over and over. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No sci-fi, no fantasy, no western, no crime, no action. Basically anything but what I listed that I do like. |
