Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Usually I'm an objective reader, but I won't lie and say that I don't have a few pet peeves, which are listed below in 'Not My Cup of Tea'. Yet, when reading someone's story, I try to pinpoint one main thing or something really important that would help them better their story even further.
In putting that, I can't stand certain writers who are egocentric, and believe their story is-- excuse the expression, but-- the shit! If you can't take polite criticism and simply are looking for another confidence booster, then I'm certainly not that type of person. I'll tell you the truth and not put you down, because I absolutely dislike destructive criticism, but I won't be your groupie or positive supporter who is of no help. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
When it comes to my strengths, characterization, emotion, detailing, and grammar are my strong points. I really like for a story to be emotive and descriptive, the character to come off realistic above all, but I'm not stringent when it comes to grammar. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Because I'm not stringent when it comes to grammar, although I'm very good at it, I tend to not point out everything word for word where you messed up. My over all practice for that is that revision makes something close enough to perfect. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm pretty much general and have no preference. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
What's not my cup of tea?...
Well, sci-fi and certain types of fantasy. I tend to space out while reading stories like that occasionally. It mostly depends upon the story itself-- or if I'm familiar with the author enough to know their pattern is the same when it comes to writing those type of stories.
Other things that aren't not my cup of tea are juvenile romances and maleXmale or femaleXfemale stories. Certain sceanrios within them makes me aggrevated or definitely uninterested, so it'd be pretty hard staying tuned into the story or detailing. |
