My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
-I don't squash stories. My reviews are usually aimed at pushing the author along, rather than picking them apart. I'd rather see a complete story with a few rough patches than a flawless first chapter.
-I try to scale the pickiness of my critiques based on how much momentum the author has going.
-I'm thorough. I review as I write, typing out comments where I feel they're needed.
-I catch a majority of spelling and grammar mistakes.
-I love brainstorming. Sometimes just talking to another writer is enough to unstick a bogged down plot.
-I can critique an action scene just as well as I can critique a romance. Which is not to say that I'm amazing at either, but I can do both. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
-I haven't much experience with realistic fiction.
-I tend to take sporadic, unplanned hiati (hiatuses? hiatus-tachi?) from ficpress. I don't know whether this would interfere with beta-ing. Hopefully not.
-If I really, really like a story, sometimes that overwhelms my objectivity. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
-Most of my experience with writing or reviewing comes from working with fantasy or sci-fi. Those are the genres I like to work in. But I'm really not picky. If you've got a story that you'd like to have read, I'll give it a shot.
-I like pulp. A lot. So don't be embarrassed if your story's got gunslinging werewolves, or whatever. Actually, that'd be pretty rockin'. If you've got gunslinging werewolves, please let me know. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Sadism is the only thing that really turns my stomach. If you write a story intending only to hurt it's principle characters, then I won't read it. Other than that, just about anything's game. |
