My name is Wes, and I have been a been beta-reading for about 6 years now. I started very early because of my natural skill finding errors and weaknesses, and now, I'm quite good at it. I don't favor stories I beta over others on the charts, so don't be worried about my judging of your stories. I offer helpful guidelines and words to live by in each of my edits. Also, I do offer, for those who are interested, copies of my editing so that the writer can see exactly what was wrong, how to fix it, and how best to avoid it in the future. Frankly speaking, I would venture to say that no other beta out there can match my powers of reasoning. As a writer, I realize that the feel of writing and the feeling you get looking at your work after the fact is quite a bit different, but such a comparison is crucial to the developmental process. I will warn you, however, that my vocabulary is extensive and my opinions are often blunt, concise, and straight to the point. If you can't take constructive criticism, this is the wrong business for you. I'm a literature enthusiast, and as such, I have a very particular mind and a sharp eye for things I like. That being said, you can expect a lot of commentary on the side. On a final note, in this industry timing is everything. I can have an editing job done with great speed if needed, but I do require an extra day for lengthy works.

I pride myself on my ability to find errors of ALL types and kinds while recommending and replacing each with appropriate options. I always consult the author for an interpretation and approval of all changes. It is, after all, the author's decision which matters the most.

I often read too much into what the author is trying to say and take too much out of context. That alone can twist my corrections in different directions than was intended. Of course, as time goes on and I become used to a writer's stylistic approach, I can more accurately identify and work within a probable field of reason in order to decipher the meaning of a passage.

I absolutely adore a good slash/shounen-ai/Boys' Love/YAOI story since I am one such writer myself. I enjoy action, adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy above all other genres, but I will beta any genre without question. I have no problem with a story that involves het couples, and I have a special place in my heart for stories that avoid romance completely.

I despise YURI(female/female) stories and cannot work with them since it is out of my ability. Of course, even in such a case, as long as the writing does not become overly graphic, I can still go through with a proper editing job.
