Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
When I'm going through a chapter I tend to catch little grammar mistakes, including my own, and I take the editing process seriously. When I'm reading other people's stories I look out for little quirks and things that make them interesting or enjoyable. I love stories that make me feel emotional in any sort of way, and if someone wants me to beta then I hope they have that same ideal--as well as at least basic grasp of writing/grammar, of course. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very good with grammar, especially spelling, and catching little mistakes. I'm also good with descriptions (making a character more interesting than just "his hair was brown, his eyes were blue", and scenery as well). Additionally, I do my best to get back to people within a week's time, unless there are outside circumstances beyond my control. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Extensive character development is a problem, especially when it comes to "reminder descriptions", like mentioning hair color or eye color later on after the full description. Occasionally I trip into a plot hole, but if I go back and reread I usually end up finding it sooner or later. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm not so good with horror stories, or poetry (beyond basic critique). I don't have any specific type of story that I would prefer to beta over any others, though, as I'm open in my writing as well as my reading, but I prefer fiction. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nonfiction, because as I stated above I prefer fiction. I find it hard to get into nonfiction, and this would make beta-ing a nonfiction piece difficult for me. Mythology carries the same reason, as well as Fable, Biography, Play, or Historical. Anything else is pretty much open. :) |
