Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am very picky. I read through everything once to get the general gist, then go back and correct problems. From how the sentences flow to the grammar to paragraphs and spacing, I suggest as much as possible to make a story feel more alive and interesting. My view is to bring the reader in, and having issues with vocabulary, misused words, misspelled words, bad grammar, can wrench the reader out of the story. At times I am brutally honest about anything from the fact that your characters are too Mary-Sue, to the way you use illogical and nonrealistic dialogue. Expect to be told some harsh things, but be prepared to have a better story when it is published here. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very talented with description and imagery; I love adjectives and use them often. Also I excel at grammar, being schooled at an academy famous for its writing and grammar skills. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have many more weaknesses than talents, I will say. My characters, though brilliant in their own respects, sometimes seem to fall onto the page as one dimensional in my own opinion. I brag on my grammar but it also needs improvement. I am not very good at sentence structure in the educational sense, and my knack for adjectives usually creates run on sentences. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romances, thrillers, anything preturnatural or fantasy of course. Vampires are always welcome, though females less so. Sorry I like the pretty men. School fiction, realistic fiction, anything fiction really. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Sci-fi. Basic plots with no relationships. Anything without a romantic relationship somewhere. |
