Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well I hate grammar, but if a story isn't paragraphed correctly or if there's to much speech in one sentence I tend to get a little annoyed. I'm Australia, so I tend to use a lot of Aussie slang and quotes, which not many people might get at first. My preference is romance, but I read just about anything and I really only go for stories with three chapters or more already written, but if the summaries good, I'll read the first chapter. I love a lot of action in stories and great plot lines, so if your spelling and grammar suck, it doesn't really matter to me as long as the story line is awesome. That doesn't go without saying that I do get a little agitated when there's spelling mistakes in every paragraph. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love a good built up character/s, a story with a lot of main focused characters can get a little confusing, but when you have that small group it makes the story all the more fun to read. When I write stories I always add plot twists and tend to make it a little confusing, but in every story there's this one obstacle or problem to get around, playing out the problem makes the whole writing theme fun to do. I love to funny in real life, and it definitely shows in my writing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I get writers block ALL the time. I also tend to make my stories a little confusing for the readers, but it just makes it fun to see who's really paying attention to the plot. Adding in new characters is a definite flaw for me, half way through the story ill add in this brand new character and then I wont know what to do with him/her for the remainder of the story. I don't really pay attention to grammar as much as I do spelling when I'm reading a story, but that's something I'll have to get used to. I have a lot of trouble writing for guy characters, its just something to do with getting into a guys head that's so hard. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance, definitely. Although I'll read just about any romance, I wont read your typical 'high school jock & nerd girl get together' type of story. I also love mythical and spiritual writing, as long as the writer knows what their talking about. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I hate stories where a female character is portrayed as the 'nerd/geeky' girl, but then she seemingly has all these guy friends! What's up with that? I also hate drama stories where someone is raped by their parent or guardian, or cuts themselves. I can handle a little drama, but when things like that come into play and are over the top (not to say I wont read if there is mentions) I wont read it. |
