Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hiya! I'm Rane/Lin. I'm a very "hands on" and "communication" Beta. I like talking, and asking a lot of questions about the story. I want to know where you would like to go, when you like writing, what stories you've read that you liked the style. I learned English in Britain so my spelling is a bit off...but I have lived in America since I was 7.
If you want me to Beta just ask. Write me a message with this information somewhere in it:
What's the Paring? (Who are the characters I should look for a forming relationship?)
What kind of story? (One-Shot, or Multi Chapter?)
What genre? (romance with angst? character death? Humour?)
Is it Regular or AU? (Does it take place in a world like ours? Or a fantasy world?)
-IF!!! It takes place in a fantasy world, and the world has creatures could you describe them to me? Or make a list so I can keep track of the information as well as you being more organized? =D
When is this story taking place? (what year? around, so I have a general idea how people should be talking)

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a grammar Nazi.I'm good at spotting plot holes and places where facts don't match up or make sense. I have very good knowledge about corny romance novels, seeing as how I read them a lot, so I know a lot of ways to get characters together if you're having a writer's block
Another thing is I'm a perfectionist when it comes to names and ages, so that's a good thing. It helps you keep track of your characters as well! not to mention it helps make them seem more realistic.
Another thing to remember is timeline. Romeo and Juliet seemed like a long story but it actually happened in 3 days. Some readers like to know when things take place and how long it is between time skips.
I check my e-mail at least 5 times a day, and I read very quickly. If I Beta you're story and you give me the draft chances are:
If given in the morning during weekends you'll get it back within 5 hours. Or before nightfall
If given weekdays in the morning you'll get it back later that night after I come home from school and sports (usually around 6pm eastern time)
If given over vacation you'll probably get it back within a couple of hours seeing as I have no social life. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't spell well but I have a wide vocabulary. That's why spell check exists anyways. My writing style is a little different, so certain ways i word things you might have to read the sentence twice to double check, but I could always fix that.
Also, I can be VERY nagy and picky about the story. Nagy to the point of wanting you to update, and picky cuz well, not everyone is going to like your story. There is no book written that takes to everyones fancy. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'd prefer to Beta and read Slash. I'm better, and have more experience, with Male x Male stories.
But I don't mind hetero pairings :3 |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Crack stories. They're called crack for a reason. They're not supposed to make sense. I'd rather read one-shots or serious fics. Stories that involve romance suit me best, I'm not that good with character death...I don't cope well, especially if it's a main character...though that's not to say I won't Beta a story with one. It just makes me sad. ;_; So I absolutely refuse crack stories. Not for my benefit, but yours. I suck with crack. I'm mostly at a loss at how a story should go, and frankly I'd be of no use to you as a muse. Sorry, but I'm more comfortable (and have more experience) with serious fics that don't make me cry in frustration when I can't understand them.......so...g'luck in your BETA search mates! :3 |
