Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Firstly, all pieces should be emailed to me at cannedchickensoup@yahoo.com, as a file attachment, either saved as a Word document, a Works document, or a WordPad or Notepad document. I have no preference as to what sort of file you choose to send me. Secondly, all corrections will be done using the Snipping Tool available from Vista. If you do not have Vista, you needn't worry about compatability issues; Snipping Tools saves its files as easy to read JPEG, GIF, or HTML. The Snipping Tool allows me to make annotations without actually changing the piece you've sent me; you can look over the corrections I've denoted in the JPEG image, and then make them accordingly. All annotations will be made in red ink, or mistakes will be highlighted. Also, if there's numbers across the annotations, this means that I will be sending another Notepad file full of my thoughts and ideas on certain aspects, that will correspond with the numbers on the JPEG images. This is all common senses stuff, of course.
The length it takes me to beta a piece depends entirely on the length of the piece itself. Please realize that I do have school, and oftentimes cannot bother with trivial matters during school nights. I'm either too tired or busy. The school year is a frantic time for me, though I desperately wish it was otherwise. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar is most definitely my forte, though I guess I can be helpful in making sure your story comes full circle. Though some of the pieces I've posted here do not reflect any particularly good grammar skills (because I don't proofread my own work), I can promise you that I will pay attention to the mechanics of your piece. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to overcomplicate, or over describe things, or I'm too vague. I need to work on finding a happy medium. Also, I tend to start on pieces and never finish them, or I'll finish them but never publish them. I don't look over anything that I write myself, and a lot of careless mistakes tend to crop up. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Anything short will be adored, but I will beta something long. As long as your piece will keep my interest, I'm all for it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I won't pay full attention to anything that begins to bore me, so nothing extremely long, like some sort of epic. I won't do poems, simply because I wouldn't know how to beta those, otherwise than check for grammatical mistakes. |
