Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love reading, and will accept just about anything. I will read a piece twice, once to get the overall jist and work out grammar mistakes, and twice to focus on the details and smooth out the more technical errors. I like to enjoy a piece when I read it, so if I go through it first for leisurely pleasure, it makes it easier to go back and fix things once I've already read the story once. My expectations are as follows:
1. The piece must be written in proper English [not including dialogue that is purposefully improper, or first person language, such as in Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn]
2. While I will beta for grammatical and spelling errors, try your best and run your piece at least once through your computer's word processor's spell checker.
3. It may sound like I'm repeating myself, but I will NOT accept anything in the form of cht spk or 1337 sp34k.
4. Put your piece in proper paragraph form [or if you submit a poem, use proper poetry format]
5. Be polite, patient and professional. These three P's will get you far in life. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love to read action, adventure, fantasy, anything of the sort. I excel in these because this is what I write, so I know where things come from, how they sound, and what will or will not go when it comes to fiction. Since I read a variety or genres, my strengths are very spead out, allowing me to beta nearly anything, realistic fiction, fantasy, romance, etc. I can also stomach anything thrown at me, so bring on the blood gore and violence. Those are my guilty pleasure. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'll put it bluntly, unless it's got fighting and action, nonfiction bores me to tears. Though if it is a topic I like, such as the Vietnam War, or the Holocaust, then I'd be willing to read it. It never hurts to ask. Can't say I'd be of much help on poetry, but if your merely looking for an opinion on the sound and flow of things, then I'm game. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Really anything that is fiction. I love fantasy, action, anything with a good storyline, believable characters that I can relate to, and fast paced things that make my mind whir. And if your story just isn't to its final point yet, and I can make it happen, then I'd love to read it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Like I said, nonfiction is not my everyday tea and crumpet, but I take them as I see them, so it never hurts to ask. I won't refuse anything just because it sounds boring. Send me a snippet of your piece and we'll go from there. |
