Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am generally here to help those that have a great idea, have a little trouble expressing, presenting, perfecting it, but not really someone that will live by someone coming up with a downright boring story and expect me to make it fly. We should work together in this, so some effort please.
Contact wise, I'd like to get to know the author too. I'd have heaps to ask when beta-ing, so most likely email, and/or MSN style. The point is if we get along and talk more, I'll most likely do your stuff faster, since I care more.
Begin by introducing yourself and your story, and we'll see how it goes. If you send me docs, I'll most likely make comments and highlight the bits that need changing. I'll give you long explanations and try to get you on the right path.
Oh, and sorry, I won't throw anything at you - such as experience, degrees, and what not. I rather prove myself by showing you what I'm worth. No point talking about unrelated stuff. Blank words mean nothing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I don't think I'll go on about grammar, spelling, and all since that's pretty obvious. At the very least, I'll have to do that. Otherwise - description, ideas, concepts, characters, I don't know what not. I can help you come up with ideas, and if you want me to write, that becomes a co-write, so you draw the line. I can more than likely find flaws in most things unless they are very good, so if you want to improve...yay! I care more about storyline, getting readers' attention head on and everything else. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can't focus on too many characters. I tend to do less characters, but explore more on them. Secondly, perfectionist as I am, I might be a bit over-picky and harsh, but if you want your story to be very good, that's the way. Lastly, probably that due to a lack of word-related memory, I have quite a small vocab, but you're writing and I've got a dictionary. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer some good original idea. It can be anything really, as long as it's good. If you want me to beta, please explain to me roughly the story - just like you're selling it to a reader or anyone else. I'm not expecting you to have the best grammar or perfect in terms of no mistakes, but at least have a decent story. I have pretty high standards, but in return, I'll give you the same to reflect that. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I hate tags, but I believe I'll have to use them for once for common understanding. 'SLASH', M/M F/F is something I won't be able to help you with for major characters. I mean if it occurs for minor characters, I'm okay with it. I don't want school assignments, or things you got up in a few minutes - I think I'll spend longer beta-ing to begin with. I hope you will at least check over your work once or twice. I will not accept very poorly written stuff. Having said that, good writing doesn't mean good story, and so if you really have a good story, but fail to convey it, I'll accept and help you on that. Mind you, if it's boring I'll stop immediate, so unless what you send me can interest me right from the start, I won't be bothered. |
