Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a fellow authoress, I know the kinds of criticisms and supports I want to receive, so I'll do my best to return those things as a beat-reader. I'll be tactfully strict with comments about improvement on structure or order to make things flow better, or whatever the problems may be, and compliment things that are nicely put. I don't expect to see killer works worthy of a literary award or anything, so I won't be overly analytical. The only thing I can't tolerate is terrible grammar that completely, insultingly detracts from a piece, because it's only thing I refuse to correct. I think most people should know the basics of grammar that make things easy to understand. But in one exception, if English isn't your first language, tell me before I beta read so I'll be aware of possible grammatical errors that will come up. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a grammar freak. I don't like it when words are misspelled, or misused (like the 'their', 'there', 'they're' and 'your', 'you're' problems) and correct them right off. I like making things flow, unless they're intentionally choppy. I'm creative and imaginative and enjoy brainstorming new ideas, so hopefully I can be a sort of source of inspiration for people when they need it. Lastly, I'm often available to beta. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Tying things together in a story can often be difficult for me, and I change my plots a lot... It helps to talk it out with a trusted friend/confidant or to type it out before starting the story. Also, I have a competent, medium-level vocabulary range and prefer to use casual words unless I'm feeling artistic. Being cliche, if that's a weakness, can also describe me, but sometimes a cliche is good, right? Like anybody else, I can miss things when I'm reading...maybe, I don't always look at the big picture and focus narrowly on certain things? Oh, and I'm fair to middling concerning action scenes. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like to read easy to medium levels that include a minimal to moderate amount of complex words, and unique poetic styles are always welcomed, as well as simple, straight to the point kinds. Other than that, I will read anything. ANYTHING(With the tiny exception in the Not My Cup Of Tea section). Have Yaoi(boy love)? Yuri(girl love)? Twincest? Manga-type? Fantasy? Horror? Romance? Something corny? Anything. If you think no one will read it, I will, and if I end up not liking it, I'll give pointers. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'll make it my cup of tea. |
