Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've written a novel and I would like to offer services as a beta so that it will help me get better at editing my own novel. I like to edit chapter by chapter and I usually copy-and-paste quotes onto a word document from your writing that either don't make sence or that could be improved and I write commentary about the quote. So pretty much I can help get very miniscule details fixed. If you want me to beta your stroy, I expect that you at least try to have proper spelling and grammer. I would like it if you would edit the story yourself before asking me to look at it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty good at identifying places that need more description. I nag a lot about the show-don't-tell thing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can't do the whole 'big picture' thing. So don't ask for plot hole identification. Good grammar/spelling is expected, so I will not correct any spelling/grammar errors. That's what your word processors spell check feature is for. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would like to do paranormal-scifi. That would be stuff that's kind of like Margarite Peterson Haddix. Realistic Young Adult is also good. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I cannot stand romance unless it's a subplot. I don't like high fantasy... Nothing with unicorns or dragons. I also don't want to edit ANY vampire stories. None. At all. Whatsoever. I'll tolerate some chick lit. No space operas. If you're not sure if I'll like it, just ask.
And because beta-reading is supposed to help you with a story BEFORE it's posted, I will not beta-read a story if it's already posted.
If it is obvious that you haven't read my profile, I simply will not respond. |
