Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm an avid reader of fantasy and science-fiction. Normally I don't try and correct others, but now that I see how things are degrading I want to offer my services as a beta-reader to the entire site.
I try to help with grammar and spelling when I can, but mostly I help the plot of a story take a shape that can be understood by other readers. I can read very quickly, so long stories are acceptable. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Making extreme things sound rational. I can make a lemon-powered warpdrive sound plausible, a shapeshifting dragon sound like something you'd see on an Animal Planet documentary. I can put realism in the most extreme of situations. I can understand very complicated concepts that would baffle most educated persons. If I do not understand, I can find a way to, and to make it easier for other readers to understand as well. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am unable to work with areas of a story that involve sex. It isn't that I don't want to, it's that I simply cannot work with it. You are on your own with this or better finding another to help.
I simply do NOT have the ability to end a story. I can start one, fill out event to event for pages upon hundred of pages...but I cannot end a story. It is up to you to decide when enough is enough, and close the back cover of your book.
I cannot read poetry. I can WRITE it, when I must, but I cannot understand poetry written by others. |

Slow stories, modern romance, drama stories, and 'Dear Diary' stories. |
