Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am an avid reader and eager writer. I edit several of my friend's works in real life. I love helping people become better writers and I hope to do the best I can. Anyone who wishes me to be their beta-reader should know that I am pretty good about catching stuff, but I will actually take the time to read the entire thing. I will put both things to be fixed and things that you did well so that you can see what to continue to do and what to correct. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good at giving compliments, checking spelling, and checking how everything goes together. I also do good rhyming schemes, as poetry is my natural forte. I always write comments on what I think you should change, I don't command you too, because I know the writer has a different view than the editor. Also, I tell the TRUTH. Scary, I know. But I have a talent, and yes, I say talent, for being nice while telling the truth. If you write something I dont like, I'm not going to say "Oh my god, you suck. Stop writing," and I'm not going to say "Oh thats wonderful." If I dont tell you the truth, how will you get anywhere with your writing? So what I say is "I like this part, but maybe the wording could be a little different." I mean, come on. That's what a BETA-READER is for. It's what I'M supposed to do, and it's what YOU are looking for. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weaknesses? I tend to tell the truth. So if you're looking for some harsh writer, I'm not it. My job as a beta is to help you, critique you, not critisize you. On the flip side, I'm not going to say "it's wonderful" everytime you give me a piece. My job is to take it, and help you improve, not pretend I know what I'm doing and completely ignore you. And let me tell you, I do my job. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
None are preferred, I am excited to read and edit whatever I can get my hands on. Although Fantasy is generally what I write so I tend to be more in that direction. I dont mind writing for poetry either (hint hint, nudge nudge).
Some poeple are like "i dont like things with demons or anti-religious stuff." or "Oh, I dunno if I can handle drama." *sigh* people, it's just a story. That's why I read EVERYTHING. It's fiction. "fictionpress." so if you have something that no one else will take, I will. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
When it comes to my acceptance of stories, I'm pretty well-rounded. Although I would like it if the story does not have excruciating detail of "excessive" gore, sexual...stuff, and etc. There's a story... and then there's just gross. Just please people, not explicit, ok? that's all i ask. |
