Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I do not look to acquire any friendships as a Beta reader, but I do wish to improve the style of your stories, trying to stick to the general vibe of your story as much as feasible. I expect you to have done your research, keeping in mind that this is a Historical fiction group. I would like to read something rich with historical facts and strong, fictional characters with the manners and tastes appropriate to the time period you have chosen. Do not exaggerate (unless it is a satire that you are writing) in a tasteless and unnecessary manner. Just remember; I am here to help, and improve your style for the better. I would never make a personal attack, lest you should be a male chauvinist ;) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel in linguistics (I am trilingual); I get top grades in English (if you must know, I am 17, but I am sure my soul is a good deal older) and could help you associate a writing style to the time period you've chosen. I am an artist, and am therefore creative and very visual and stick to details, if that's what you need help in. I won't say that because I'm female, I'm better at describing human emotion, but the truth of the matter is that I really am, and NOT because of my sex. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
... Perhaps complexity. I love plots with much twists and turns, which some don't necessarily approve of. I'm a bit harsh with criticism, and some have even snapped back at me because of it, but if I DO have the honor to criticize your work, then please don't take it too personally. I'm not that kind of person. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I usually prefer fiction set in the English Regency period, the Victorian Era, and the Middle Ages. Those are my areas of expertise, and would love to see your interpretation of them. Also anything with philosophy or psychology or Dystopic society. Love that stuff. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I wouldn't read... random fiction. If you've started writing based on impulse, and have done no research on your subject and you pay little attention to your style of writing, then there is no point in indulging in a story which lacks literate wealth. Also I search for originality. If your story is a tune I've heard many others singing, then I won't read it. The first chapter has got to be gripping and original. |
