Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a very thorough beta. I like to fill up pages of comments, and if you see my reviews, then you'll get an idea of how I like to dissect every little thing, or make comments on the littlest things. I am a slightly blunt kind of girl. If I don't like it, I will tell you. Same thing if I do. I am very picky about grammar, punctuation, and spelling, because those are my weak points. I prefer to read over it fast, then take it slow and edit. Don't ask me why, 'cause I don't know myself. If you want me to be your beta, you have to acquire- or already have- some sort of patience. I may not be able to get to you ASAP, but I will try my best. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am slowly growing my strength as a SPaG Hag (Spelling and Grammar). My spelling has improved (spell check is a big help, though), but grammar could be better--punctuation, sentence structure/fluency, and spelling are my strengths. I am usually more equipped at beta-reading things I'm used to writing: romance, action, humor, first person POV. I'm also good at supplying ideas--I fancy calling myself a got-to-PB girl. If you're dry out of ideas, or are stuck where you are, I'm your girl. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As mentioned earlier, grammar is one of my weak points. Another one is having to beta something that I don't particularly care for. If I don't like it, I will tell you. But if it has potential, I'll probably just suck it up and go through with it. That's not saying that if I don't like it, I'll just slam the door in your face (figuratively, of course), but I can be very picky. I also am a notorious procrastinator (as most writers usually are), so I won't be able to get the chapter back to you as soon as you may like. I'm in school, so I have other priorities. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer beta reading first person, since that's an area I'm more than familiar with; I also like to read for genres such as romance, action/adventure, and humor. I can deal with some Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus, but nothing too suffocating, please. I am also open to smuts of all kinds (re: fem-slash and slash). |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I would prefer not to be approached with genres such as angst, and containing things like teenage pregnancies, or young people abusing drugs, and rapes that don't end well. My poor Puffle heart can't take the pains. Also, if you're going to send something to me to edit, could you please have the decency of checking over your own work before sending it over? I'd like someone who at least grasps the gist of proper SPaG. |
