Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I focus mainly on spelling and grammar. Is it spelled right? Does it make sense? If I see something that could be improved, I will point it out. If I think something else will fit better, I will suggest it. I am honest, and will give constructive criticism, pointing out both good things and things that need to be worked on. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am an excelent speller, and am a bit of a grammar fanatic. I realize that in poetry, the rules need to be bended, but not to the extent that the reader can't tell what the writer means. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am a weak in the area that I cannot read a piece without critiquing it. If a writer wants me to focus only on spelling and grammar, they will have to make that clear. I am also slightly picky. There are just certain styles I don't like, and I will let the reader know if I simply cannot work objectively with them on a particular piece. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like to beta short stories and poetry the most. If a writer wants me to beta a multi-chapter story, I prefer they be experienced, or at least very open to suggestions. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I do not like beta-reading multi-chapter stories for newer writers for the fact that I can be over-critical at times, and would likely make both myself and the author frustrated. |
