Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I enjoy writing, but reading is more natural for me. Correcting people is a habit of mine, so it's nice when I can actually put it to good use--it would make my life that much easier if I had the ability to edit my own writing with competence, however.
Whenever I'm unsure of something, I make sure to look it up or make a point of saying it's questionable. I generally avoid making statements or corrections I can't back up, which seems like common sense but is actually something a lot of people have to force themselves to do.
I have some limits, however: I won't beta for any story I am blatantly uninterested in, nor will I tolerate impatience and/or rudeness. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an eye for misspellings, inconsistencies, and lack of fluency. I can also help with fragments, run-ons, and general rephrasing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
First of all, I can't read much of anything that isn't in English, sadly. Furthermore, my grammar is not 100% flawless, just to warn you. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Horror, realistic fiction, action, thriller, poetry (but not haiku!), and romance--those are my favorites by far. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
To be honest, I have a vague distaste for futuristic sci-fi, historical fiction, nonfiction, and unoriginal fantasy. I'm not too big on concepts visibly stolen from movies or other books, either. |
