Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am probably one of the most grammatically stingy people you'll meet on here, but that's not neccessarily a bad thing. I scrutinize for YOU. Ha, it really does help to have good grammar in your stories. No one wants to read "I goed to the sture today. I baute lotz of things. It were a fun day." Seriously, I'll tell you what's wrong. Think of me like Simon Cowell. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm great with spelling except for a few choice words (see weaknesses). When I was in 1st to 4th grade, I won the Spelling Bee every year.
Since I was that young, my teachers have always marveled at my vocabulary.
I don't sugar coat. Ever. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm kind of mean. :)
I can't spell certain words, like definitely (Is that right?) or neccessarily (That can't be. I always put like three too many s's and c's.
I feel like Spellcheck is always telling me that I put in too many commas. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love suspense stories. Dean Koontz has been one of my favorite authors. Also, stories with crime in it, not stories about crime, have been favorites of mine (Like Silence of the Lambs). An occasional love story isn't so bad either ;). I try to put romance in mine from time to time. Any story that engages the reader, really. Horror can be good. I love zombie movies so a good zombie book wouldn't be so bad.
Most of my story centers around a manipulative almost untouchable antagonist with a weakness, I'd like to read something like that. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I can't touch poetry. I just can't. You shouldn't talk about something you know nothing of, and for me that's poetry.
Anime style is really starting to get on my nerves. It's just so ridiculously annoying. I can stand it, but I just think it's ridiculous.
Borderline FanFiction makes me steam. I think fanfiction is mindless. I have originality. FanFiction is promoting plagurism. (Spelling?)
I can stand Sci Fi for a while, but it can't cross my invisible line of being totally outlandish. Like probably the worst Sci-Fi I do is some energy blasts from the main villain and demonic powers.
I despise America's fascination with darkness. The example I use is Sonic the Hedgehog. Those games are classics, but in order to cash in on this obsession they make that Shadow the Hedgehog.Darkness leads to depression people. Think happy thoughts, emo kids. |
