Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi, and I get OCD about spelling.
My betaeing skill multipies by a tenfold when I'm reading horror or anything even moderately twisted. So, if you've got a creation that is (at least) Burtonesque in its ideas and execution, even if it's not horror, I will totally read it.
I also like descriptive pieces. You know, the ones that describe flowers in great detail, or go into characters' heads. Always had a thing about that. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really good with description, grammar, and I can read anything you throw at me. Anything. Except for sparkly vampires, but that's a different story. I also will encourage you to have more detail. It's almost unavoidable. Detail is king, people! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I guess I better say this now- I know about as much about any sort of romance as a monk who's been buried under a rock with the company of an earthworm for fifty years. You can give it to me for grammatical stuffs, but please don't expect any opinions on how the romantic leads should continue, because I will not have a clue what to say.
Poetry I can do, to an extent, but my grammatical zealot might cramp your style, especially if you're a flow of thought writer that has forgotten about the existence of punctuation. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer stuff in the horror genre, or at least stuff that tries to go off the beaten path. Length is not a problem for me; I will take in long stories as well as short stories. With that sort of guideline, please pelt me with anything you've got. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No vampires, please. I don't care if they're unique from the ones I keep seeing nowadays. I'm suffering from vampire fatigue. If I see one more vampire, your manuscript will be cleverly edited so the character in question is insane. |
