This is a dystopian novel about a large, overpowering society that keeps its people on a very short leash. Children are sorted by the Trials, a series of tests that show the child's intelligence. Children who score high are secretly killed, because they could overthrow the leader. The Affrayers, a rebel group, kidnap these kids as soldiers to overthrow the leader.
