Kinda get the impression of the hopelessness of the situation. There seems to be no victory in sight, no chance of surrender, only total victory or more likely total defeat.

But if the cause is just and the foe is fought, there is no dishonor in defeat.

Your darker more solomn side appears in this poem, revealing to those who read it, a glimpse of what you see during the darker times in your life... I for one, hope to when you feel like this, lead you out of the dark land and into the brighter one.

The word that stands out in my mind is "that" because it is set off with commas. Why?! Good imagery and great meaning. Short and sweet...
