The song takes place during the conflict in Vietnam. An honest mistake...save for the fact you copied the lyrics down and they mention Vietnam expressly.

Just some info. Travelin' Soldier is not a Dixie Chicks song. But the lyrics are correct because they did change it some for their own version. Although different from the original, the lyrics are correct.

She repleced the ribbon because she was mourning and red symbolizes innocence, she probably felt she was no longer innocent.

I think you may have gotten some of the song lyrics wrong.
